Meet The Team
James Garman, President
I combine my knowledge of and appreciation for exercise, fitness, nutrition, and health with my passion for creativity and entrepreneurship. I do my best to help lead a team of amazing people at BodyComp so we can continuously provide our customers the best we have to offer. I’m grateful for our awesome customers and 5-star team. We’ve worked hard to build what we have and I’m excited about the possibilities that surround us.
When I’m not doing any of that stuff, I enjoy things like spending time with my wife and daughter, working out, playing guitar, building websites, reading books, craft beer, yard work, talking shop, movie quotes, vintage wine, genuine people, family, and friends.
Travis Kemsley, General Manager
My name is Travis Kemsley and I was born and raised in San Diego. Growing up, I spent my time playing a wide variety of sports (baseball, water polo, swim, field hockey, and various martial arts). It wasn’t until I turned 16 and found Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu that I realized where my passion was. I spent every possible second that I could on the mat, eventually becoming a brown belt under Dylan Dearborn.
Much to my chagrin, I could not find a college that was willing to let me major in Jiu-Jitsu. So, I settled for the next best thing, Kinesiology. In all honesty, Kinesiology has been a long-time passion and I couldn’t wait to explore the intricacies of the human body. I fell in love with exercise testing specifically in the Human Performance Lab at Humboldt State University (Thanks Pat and Tina!). Being a self-admitted “numbers guy” I spent as much time as possible in the lab, testing as many people as I could during my stay at Humboldt before graduating.
Jessica Wood, Wellness Consultant
Hey, my name is Jessica Wood; I’m 24 and grew up in Grand Rapids, MI for 23 years of my life. A lifelong dream of mine was to move to San Diego, CA, which is where I now reside. Two weeks after graduating college in 2016 my brother and I packed up our cars and made the long trek across the country to San Diego. I was finally pursuing a dream of mine and I was also about to take on a 14 week Internship with EXOS, a sports performance facility based in North County.
Sports have been a huge part of my life since I was a little girl. Growing up I loved playing softball, basketball, and football. I also experienced with swimming, track & field, and cheerleading. I am known to always be active and on the go which is also how I found my love for living a healthy lifestyle. I played 4 years of collegiate softball and graduated with a degree in Exercise Science and a minor in coaching from Saginaw Valley State University. I am now a Certified Performance Specialist through EXOS and a Certified Personal Trainer through NASM as well as Fitness Nutrition Specialist.
Curt Lewis, Wellness Consultant
Born and raised in Neosho, MO, I am the youngest of two children and the product of two loving parents who are celebrating 49 years of marriage. After high school, I went to college and lived in the Kansas City, MO area for 8 years before moving to San Diego, CA in 1998 to pursue my Master’s degree. I have remained in San Diego since graduating in 2000. After two successful careers working with numbers, I decided it was time to pursue my true passion of helping others become their best self. As a certified personal trainer and nutrition coach, I work with individuals and groups to find a health and wellness path that fits their lifestyle. I want to be remembered for my dedication and compassion for helping others live longer, healthier, happier lives.
